| Cartridge Heater Removal |
A Thermal Customer called and had been having trouble removing cartridge heaters.
One of the most frustrating things that can occur with cartridge heaters is removing them when they fail.
One of our customers recently had to spend so much time removing their cartridge heaters that they were cutting significantly into their production. They called Thermal to assess their sticky situation.
Two of the great advantages of a swaged cartridge heater are higher wattages and higher temperatures. These two advantages call for a good close fit to conduct the heat away from the heater. Put these all together and you can see where the problem of heaters seizing is an all too common occurrence as the heater expands as the temperature rises and the resultant pressure practically welds it to the walls of the insertion hole. |

| Emergency Work |
| The company had an eighteen foot square pipe containing oil heated by a heat exchanger which in turn heated an internal pipe carrying extrudate to six die heads further down the line. The pipe had developed a leak, introducing plastic to the oil causing a fire destroying the heat exchanger and very nearly seriously damaging the surrounding building. |
